Next Project

It is my sincerest hope that this project inspires both men and women, of all racial backgrounds to critically examine the images we’ve come to associate as the definition of Black women. I encourage people to reject these harsh and inflammatory depictions which are often also degrading, but more important not accurate. These women are co-workers, friends, mothers, sisters, aunts, daughters, lovers, and friends worthy of their own unique identity and voice.

If you’d like to contribute to help with this reprogramming please stand with me and other nationally to present real representation of Black women. Our next project will be an audio montage of voices, and stories to create a larger visual piece of art. If you’d like to make your voice heard please click the link below for more information.

For our next project we will be creating a joint visual and audio piece made up of the stories of all the women who see this project and feel impacted by it. These caricatures have existed successfully for years, it is going to take more than my voice to change them- I hope you’ll join me!

Please call us (412)256-8480 (Google Voice) and leave a message sharing your name and how you defy a popular stereotype. Please make sure you summarize your brief message with the phrase: “and I am not a stereotype”.

For example: *Beep* Hi! My name is Kim, and I am an engineer specializing in nuclear reactors. I am a mother and a great friend and I am not a stereotype.

Example #2: *Beep* Hi! My name is Lauren and I am a prize winning surfer, I have 3 ribbons and am the first Black woman in my county to do so. I am not a stereotype.
